Mission
The Head of Accounting is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the full spectrum of accounting operations, ensuring regulatory compliance, financial integrity, and strategic alignment with the company’s goals and ownership directives. Acting as a bridge between the operational accounting team and the Financial Manager, the Head of Accounting plays a pivotal role in financial reporting, tax compliance, legal obligations, and coordination with the owning company. This position is critical in supporting executive financial decision-making, risk management, and corporate governance.
What you will have to do:
- Provide strategic direction and oversight for all accounting activities including General Ledger, Accounts Payable/Receivable, Payroll, and Financial Reporting.
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate the Accounting Supervisor and team to ensure operational efficiency, accuracy, and policy adherence.
- Ensure compliance with Greek accounting standards, tax legislation (VAT, corporate tax, withholding taxes, etc.), and legal frameworks affecting hotel operations.
- Liaise with external auditors, tax consultants, and legal advisors to manage audits, inspections, and regulatory reviews.
- Monitor evolving tax laws and accounting regulations, assess implications, and implement necessary adjustments in collaboration with the Financial Manager.
- Coordinate all financial reporting required by the owning company, including monthly P&L summaries, CAPEX monitoring, and investment reporting.
- Maintain a comprehensive internal control framework to mitigate financial risks and ensure data integrity.
- Oversee the preparation and timely submission of statutory financial statements, tax declarations, and compliance reports.
- Contribute to budget development, financial forecasting, variance analysis, and cash flow management.
- Represent the Finance Department in cross-functional meetings and liaise with ownership representatives on financial matters.
- Drive standardization and improvement of accounting systems, reporting tools, and internal processes.
- Ensure all accounting practices align with the broader objectives of the Financial Manager and Group Finance policies, where applicable.
Who we are looking for:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Economics; Master’s degree or professional certification (e.g., ACCA, CPA, CIMA) preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership role; hospitality industry experience is a strong asset.
- Expert knowledge of Greek accounting and tax legislation; familiarity with EU accounting directives and hotel-specific compliance requirements.
- Proven ability to manage audits, liaise with tax authorities, and interpret financial law.
- Experience preparing reports for company boards, owners, or stakeholders.
- Proficient in financial software (Soft1, Epsilon Net, Opera PMS, Micros) and advanced Excel modeling.
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills with a strategic mindset.
- High attention to detail, ethical standards, and ability to work under pressure.
